MICROBIOLOGY

Parasites

The incidence of parasitic diseases is increasing outside previous endemic areas. This reason justify that clinical laboratories should maintain a high level of detection and identification of parasites species causing diseases in humans.

Many of human parasitic disease are intestinal infections and diagnosis is based on the detection helminth eggs and larvae or protozoa cysts in fecal samples. For this purpose an appropiate collection. transport and handling of fecal samples is essential.

Our laboratory. under the REAL trade. has developed a complete system for the collection. preservation. transport and concentration of parasites structures in fecal samples. The diagnostic laboratory can choose among several fixations methods: SAF, ECOSAF, MIF and REALFIx, and concentrate the parasite structures with our universal filtration system :

Universal system REALFIX 180 RP3050 RP3015
Universal system without fixation solution 180 RP1600 RP1615

The Universal Filtration System includes: Tube of transport with tablespoon and glass balls for homogenization (with or without fixation solution) (1), plastic bag for transport of the samples and clinical data sheet (2), 15 or 50 ml tube with filter (3), pipettes for collection of the sediment (4) and
rack tube (5). (Image page 1).

NOVELTY

REALFIX : A new fixation solution developed in our laboratory, free of formaldehyde and heavy metals that improves the conservation of parasite structures, compatible with staining methods.

REAL SOLUTION OF CONCENTRATION : A new product that substitutes formaline in the concentration process.

Rapid Tests for Diagnosis

Rotavirus is main gastroenteritis ethiology, specially in two year-old children. For the diagnosis of this infection we have the product ReAR for identification of Rotavirus and Adenovirus based on inmunocromatography.
Likewise, and based on the same technology we have methods for the rapid identification of the Giardia lamblia and Cryptosporidium that are considered the most common infections caused by intestinal protozoa.
